PCS

The Department of Computer and Digital Systems Engineering (PCS) was established in 1991 as a natural result of the work initiated by the group that created the Digital Systems Laboratory (LSD) in 1968, and developed and built the hardware and software for the first Brazilian computer, the "Ugly Duckling", in 1971.
The fast growth and development in the field of Computing is reflected in the ongoing updating of the Department's areas of research and in the disciplines it offers. Constant interchange with companies and other institutions of higher education, in Brazil and abroad, provide an important subsidy for this continuous redirection process.
Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Computer and Digital Systems Engineering are divided into two different modalities: Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Computing (a semester-based course) and Computer Engineering (Cooperative Course, i.e., a four-month-based course).
The Department of Computer and Digital Systems Engineering (PCS) has graduate level teaching and its basic goal is the development of basic technological research in Digital Electronics and Computer Engineering.
